Blacktop Halo
Blacktop Halo is a duet between Cody and Emily that pairs country-rock drive with a cinematic road-song feel. It plays out in a night-time world of trucks, wet asphalt, motel signs, diners, cracked windshields and headlights falling like a quiet halo across the road.
The title isn't meant as a religious image, but as a metaphor: light on the blacktop, a ring around the searching, the driving and the hoping. With Emily as a full second voice, the family at the heart of the band is heard more clearly than ever. Its story is about another person, rather than a chapter from Cody's own life.
